We thought the best way to start our blog was with a proper hello.
Stampy’s Shop is our little vault of creativity in Scarborough, bringing together art, design, clothing, gifts, glow-in-the-dark products and a few unusual finds along the way.
The name comes from our family surname, Stamp, but the shop itself has grown out of years of creative work, shared interests and a love of things that are a little different.
Why The Market Vaults?
When we decided to open a physical shop, The Market Vaults in Scarborough felt like the right home for us.
It has a character all of its own, with its historic surroundings and slightly hidden-away atmosphere. It felt like a natural fit for the mix of artwork, clothing, gifts and glowing products we wanted to bring together.
We love that visiting the shop feels a little like discovering something tucked away.
A Shop Built Around Creativity
We’re Simon and Hannah, a husband-and-wife team with different creative backgrounds but plenty of shared interests.
Simon comes from a print and visual design background and has been running a glow-in-the-dark business since 2007. Over the years, that has involved creating and selling products designed to bring a little more colour, light and fun into everyday life.
Hannah is an artist and printmaker whose work draws heavily on folklore, heritage and local history. Her artwork is inspired by the stories, traditions and curious details discovered through her studies in Art History, Heritage and Archives.
Bringing those two sides together has helped shape Stampy’s Shop into what it is today.
Art, the Coast, Festivals and Unusual Finds
We’ve never wanted Stampy’s Shop to feel like somewhere filled with things you could find anywhere.
A lot of what we choose reflects the things we enjoy ourselves: art and design, coastal life, festival culture, folklore, local history, bright colours, unusual gifts and products with a bit of personality.
Whether you’re looking for something to wear, a piece of artwork for your wall, a gift for somebody difficult to buy for, or something that simply makes you smile, we hope there’s always something interesting to discover.
What You’ll Find on the Blog
We’ll be using this blog to share a bit more of the world behind Stampy’s Shop.
That might include new products and artwork, stories and inspiration behind our designs, glow-in-the-dark ideas and projects, things we discover around Scarborough, festival-related pieces, local folklore and history, or simply interesting things that have caught our attention.
Hopefully, it will give you a little more than you can fit onto a product page.
